Can I Have Two Blink Apps On My Phone? It's Possible

Can you use two Blink apps on a single device?

I had the same question when I bought a second Blink Outdoor Cam to use in my office in a new system.

This is what I came to understand after much research:

No, you officially cannot use two Blink apps on a single device. You can however use IFTTT to switch accounts by receiving notifications from the system that you're not currently signed into. You can also clone the Blink app via a cloning app to run two instances of the app at the same time.

Keep reading this article to find out workarounds on how to access multiple systems from the same device.

Why Use Two Blink Apps on a Single Phone?

The obvious question to ask is why not simply log out of your primary account and log into the secondary account instead of wanting two instances of the Blink app running simultaneously?

The answer for a lot of people is likely to be security issues. Upon creating a Blink account, the user has to create one username, one password, and link one phone number for the account.

During log-in, Blink enforces two-factor authorization by requesting the username and password, and a one-time password is sent to the phone number associated with the account.

However, remember that you cannot give the same phone number for two different Blink accounts.

As a result, every time you want to switch your Blink account, you are forced to access the text message sent to the alternate number.

You can however give access to your Blink system to be used or accessed on different devices (up to 100 devices).

That is, you can log in to the same account from many compatible iOS and Android devices. You can even access the Blink app on PC by performing a rather simple walkaround.

This enables access to the Blink system for everybody in your family. However, keep in mind that it is not possible to view Live View on multiple devices at the same time.

The need for creating a second Blink account mainly arises when you need to set up multiple systems to survey different places of interest, say your Home and your Office.

And how do you do that?

Well, there isn't any official method to operate two Blink apps on a single device. But there are a couple of workarounds. Let's look at them now.

Even though Blink Cams cannot be viewed from multiple systems at the same time, multiple Blink Cams can record at the same time, regardless of how they are paired - either through a Sync Module or independently.

Workaround 1: Use IFTTT to Get Motion Alerts so as to Switch Accounts

IFTTT setup

IFTTT simply stands for If This Then That. These are conditions that are triggered by an event that results in a preprogrammed action.

For example, If you do not want to clone your Blink app, you could use the Blink app with IFTTT applet integration to get notifications when your alternate system gets a motion trigger.

Once you receive the notification that a motion event has occurred on the alternate system, you can simply log out of your current system and log in to the alternate.

IFTTT also happens to be a reliable way to integrate Google Home with Blink Cams, which otherwise are incompatible.

How to Setup IFTTT for Blink

Blink supports IFTTT applet integration, and as a result, there exists plenty of cool automations that you carry out on your Blink systems.

You can explore more about the diverse functions that you can do by downloading the official IFTTT app from the Play Store.

It also means that you can now integrate multiple devices or services together by creating conditions between them.

The steps for setting up IFTTT for Blink is given below:

  1. On your smartphone, go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and download the IFTTT app.
  2. Once the app is installed, you will have to create an IFTTT account or log in using your Google account.
  3. Once signed into the app, the welcome screen will show you personalized applet recommendations which will get more accurate over time.
  4. Click on the Explore button to navigate to the search screen.
  5. Here, look for Blink and then tap on the blue Blink logo from the search results. There are region-specific Blink services like Blink (Europe).
  6. The app will prompt you to Connect your Blink account with the app. Sign in to your Blink account.
  7. A one-time PIN is sent to your smartphone or your email address.
  8. Tap on Grant Access. Now you will have access to the applets on the IFTTT platform or you can create your own.
  9. Since our goal here is to get notified when a motion alert is detected on a system, look for Blink applets that serve this purpose. It could be an applet where you get an email notification triggered by a motion alert.
  10. Once you have selected your applet, you will have the option to connect this applet to your Blink system.
  11. You might get a prompt asking you to allow push notifications. Tap on Allow to make sure that the notification system works well.
  12. The next screen takes you to a page where you have to choose which system you would like to integrate with this applet.
  13. Once you have done that, tap on Save. You have now connected the applet.
  14. You can check the status of all integrated applets by navigating to My Services in the IFTTT app.

Once you have finished setting it up, you can test out the system by intentionally triggering the Blink system and checking if you get an email.

Workaround 2: Use a Cloning App to Use Two Blink Apps on the Same Phone

Cloning App

Another way to run two instances of the Blink app on the same phone is to use a cloning app to clone the existing Blink app.

Note: Cloning apps work best on Android. You may not be able to clone the Blink app on iOS.

However, this method may not yield the best results as cloning apps are catered towards cloning social media apps. Cloning the Blink app may prove to be a daunting task.

Before cloning the Blink app, there are some pre-requisites to do. The first step to do is to delete the camera(s) from your old Blink account.

This is a necessity because you cannot add cameras to a new account if they are already linked to an existing account.

On your smartphone, log out of your current Blink account and create a new one. Add the camera(s) that you would like to group into a secondary account.

Once you have added all your Cameras, follow these steps to access the primary account from a cloning app:

1. Go to the Play Store and search for an app cloner. Open the app cloner and add the Blink app to clone it.

Popular cloning app options include Super Clone, and Parallel app, among many others.

2. Once the app has successfully cloned another instance of the Blink app, open this secondary Blink app and log in with the credentials you created initially.

The original Blink app continues to monitor the main cameras and the cloned version of the Blink app accesses the secondary cameras.

Can I Manage Multiple Systems on the Same Blink Account

The Sync Module is a crucial element in how most Blink Cams work. With multiple Sync Modules, you can have more than one system within a single account.

Not all Blink Cams require a Sync Module to work. Select Blink models like the Blink Mini and the Blink Doorbell can work independently without a Sync Module.

The Blink app does allow users to manage multiple Sync Module systems from a single account.

However, there are limitations like the number of cameras allowed to be grouped and managed in a single system.

Most often, users look for such a requirement in order to have multiple Blink systems under one roof or one device.

Let's first explore why someone would want two Blink apps on a single device in the first place:

  1. Blink allows for only 10 cameras to be added to an account. If you have more than 10 cameras, it could be a reason why you want multiple systems.
  2. It could also be that you have cameras set up in multiple locations. In this case, you would want to have access to both of these camera systems.
  3. Additionally, you might like to group your cameras in order to create schedules for these grouped cameras. In such an event as well, you would need multiple systems.
  4. The reason to have multiple systems could be something as simple as monitoring areas out of range from your primary wireless router or wanting to use multiple access points for your cameras.

How to Create a New System

As discussed before, there are many situations where having a separate system is extremely useful. The steps to create a new system with a sync module in the Blink app are given below:

1. Open the Blink app and from the Home screen, tap on the + icon to add a device.

2. On the Add Device screen, tap on Sync Module.

Select your Blink Device

3. Scan the QR code located on the back of the Sync Module. You can also enter the serial number of the device manually.

4. Once the device has been added, you will now be asked to create a new system. Give a unique name to your system. Then, tap on Continue.

5. Now the onscreen instructions will suggest that the Sync Module is powered up.

6. Wait for the Sync Module LED indicator light to flash blue and green.

7. Once you see this indication from the Sync Module, tap on Discover Device.

8. The Sync Module now creates a temporary Wi-Fi network named BLINK-XXXX where the last 4 digits will be the same as the final digits of its serial number. Tap on Join.

9. Once you have joined the network, you are asked to join your local Wi-Fi network. Enter the Wi-Fi password and tap on Join.

10. If you cannot find your local network, tap on Refresh List located at the bottom of the screen.

11. Once the Sync Module has been added, you will receive a completion screen. Tap on Done.

You can see the status of the connection between the Sync Module and the Blink servers through the cloud icon.

You are now ready to add cameras to this new system.

Final Thoughts

There are different scenarios where having control over multiple Blink accounts at the same time is really useful.

And with the help of methods like enlisting the services of a cloning app and enabling IFTTT, you can manage multiple Blink apps from the same device.

Make sure that not many changes are made with the cloned version of the Blink app. This is to make sure that there are no conflicts between the operation of the two.

Hope the information in this article has helped in solving the issue.

Have a Good Day!
