Blink Doorbell not Working on Echo Show 5: How to Fix

Blink devices are some of the most reliable and easy-to-set-up devices out there. That being said, like all modern devices, things are bound to go south sometimes.

I myself use both the Blink Video Doorbell and the Echo Show 5.

The powerful pair provide an all-around easy and smooth home security experience but the combo does fail to work together once in a while.

But with the fixes we are about to discuss, you can get through most roadblocks that you come across while integrating the two devices with ease:

Power Cycle the Blink Cam and the Echo Show 5

Blink Doorbell batteries removed

Power cycling, or in simple terms restarting, your devices every once in a while will help restart the firmware, refresh connections, and help flush out any bugs or glitches in the system.

Soft resetting/power cycling your device will not erase any saved data or settings from the device.

Performing a power cycle test is the recommended fix for some of the most critical issues on Blink like Blink command failed to complete and Blink notification but no video.

Power cycling your Echo Show 5 will help provide an overall smooth experience. To power cycle your Echo Show 5:

Echo show unplugged
  1. Disconnect your Echo Show from power by unplugging the power cord from the wall socket
  2. Wait for a couple of seconds
  3. Connect your Echo Show back to power
  4. If the device doesn't turn on automatically, press the power button on the top of the device
  5. Wait for a few minutes for the device to completely turn on

Once the device restarts, check if you are able to connect and use your Blink Doorbell.

To power cycle your Blink Video Doorbell:

  1. Remove the Blink Doorbell from the mount
  2. Disconnect the Blink Doorbell from the power source or Remove the batteries
  3. Wait for a couple of seconds and plug the device back in or re-add the batteries
  4. The Blink Doorbell will restart now

Once the Blink Doorbell restarts, check if you are able to use it with the Echo Show.

Check for Updates

Newer firmware updates bring in new bug fixes, security enhancements, and help clear any potential issues.

It is necessary that you keep both the Blink app, camera firmware, and Echo Show up-to-date to ensure optimal performance and to ward off issues like Blink authentication failed.

Blink camera will update automatically when connected to the internet provided the Blink app is up-to-date.

To check for the latest camera firmware:

  1. Navigate to the Blink app.
  2. Go to Device settings for the camera whose firmware you want to update.
  3. Scroll down to see the device firmware version.

To update your Blink app, follow these steps:

Blink App update
  1. Navigate to the Play Store/App Store.
  2. Search for the Blink app.
  3. Click on Update.
  4. Your Blink app will now get updated.

You can check the latest firmware releases for different Blink cameras on the Blink official website. Your cameras should automatically update to this firmware when connected to the network.

To update the Echo Show 5:

  1. Ensure that the device is connected to the internet.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Settings menu.
  3. Click on the Settings option.
  4. Scroll down and select the Device options.
  5. Select Check for Software Updates.
  6. If any updates are available, click on Download and Install now.
  7. Wait for the update to finish downloading and installing.

Once the update is installed, restart your device to prevent any software glitches or bugs. Check and see if the Blink Video Doorbell works with the Echo Show 5.

Factory Reset Echo Show 5 and Blink Doorbell

If soft resetting and updating the firmware doesn’t solve the issue, try hard resetting the Blink Doorbell and the Echo Show 5.

Hard resetting your device will erase all saved data and settings. Make sure to backup data and device settings to avoid data loss.

Also, hard resetting the Blink Cam is known to be a commendable fix for issues like the Blink Doorbell blinking red and to remove a Blink Cam registered to another account.

To hard reset the Blink Doorbell:

Blink Doorbell reset button
  1. Carefully unplug the Blink Doorbell from the mount.
  2. Remove the back plate and press and hold the reset button.
  3. Continue holding the reset button until the indicator light flashes red.
  4. Your Blink Doorbell is now reset.
Blink Doorbell Camera

Once your Blink Doorbell is reset, remove the device from your Blink Account and re-add it to your account using the Blink app.

To hard reset the Echo Show 5:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Settings menu.
  2. Click on the Settings option.
  3. Scroll down and select the Device options.
  4. Scroll down and select the Reset to Factory Defaults option.
  5. Click on Reset on the new screen that appears.

Hard Resetting your Echo Show will deregister your device from your Amazon account. Set up your device and re-register your device to your Amazon account once you complete the reset.
