Blink Camera Failed to Update: How to Fix [2023]

Lately, I have noticed that some of my Blink cameras have failed to update their latest firmware version.

Two of the same model of Blink cameras in my house now run two different firmware versions, making it very cumbersome.

So I figured I write this one-stop troubleshooting article on how you can fix the firmware-update-failed issue on your Blink camera.

If your Blink camera fails to update, update the Blink app to the latest available version to initiate the firmware update process. Check if the Blink camera is supported for newer updates. If the issue persists, check network connectivity and power cycle the device.

How to Update Blink Camera Firmware

Blink cameras get automatically updated to their latest firmware version when they are synced to the latest version of the Blink app.

So it is imperative to stay on the latest version of the Blink app to get the latest firmware updates for your Blink cameras.

Updating the Blink App

Updating the Blink app on your compatible smartphone or tablet is as simple as visiting its application store page and checking for any updates.

To check and update your Blink app to its latest available version, simply follow the steps given below:

  • Open the application store of your compatible smartphone or tablet. For iOS, it should be the Apple App Store and for Android devices, it should be the Google Play Store.
  • On the search field at the top of the homepage, search for the Blink app.
  • Click on the first relevant result that takes you to the application store page of the Blink app.
  • If you find an option for Update, click on it to start the Blink app update process. If no such option is visible, you are probably on the latest available version.

Nowadays, by default, the application stores on your smart device will keep tabs on newer updates of any application that you have installed on your device.

This includes the Blink app, and the application store whether it is the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store will automatically update the app to the latest version.

But in some cases, this auto-update feature might be disabled.

To check whether the auto-update is enabled on devices running iOS, simply follow the steps below:

  • Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  • Tap on App Store.
  • Turn on the App Updates option under the Automatic Downloads section if it was disabled.

You can also turn on the automatic downloads option under the Cellular Data tab to enable auto updates in apps even if you are on cellular data.

To check whether the auto-update is enabled on devices running Android, simply follow the steps below:

  • Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  • Tap on the menu or the profile icon on the top right of the store homepage.
  • Tap on Settings.
  • Tap on Network Preferences.
  • Tap on Auto Update apps.
  • Set the option to Over WiFi only or Over any network as per your preference.
