My Ring doorbell camera recently stopped sending me motion alerts and in general, was not properly detecting motion.

This was a weird occurrence, considering that Ring cameras have not had a major failure rate for me personally.

A few hours of research on the internet made me realize that quite a few users are having trouble with similar issues in general.

So I figured I make this one-stop troubleshooting article on how your can fix your Ring camera that is not properly detecting motion.

In the case of doorbell cameras such as Ring, the case can be even more common considering the constant activity around doors.

Motion detection in Ring cameras utilizes the heat signatures of the objects that are in motion in the line of sight, so anything that blocks the heat detection hinders the motion sensor.

Even something as simple as a transparent glass hood covering the Ring Doorbell camera or specks of dust can result in motion detection issues.

So make sure that the line of sight of the camera is devoid of any unwanted obstacles.

If you feel your coverage is apt, then the next thing to check is whether you are receiving internet properly.

For that, connect your internet to your smartphone or laptop, and check whether you are able to connect to the internet.

If not, check the status indications of your internet router and gauge the issue according to the indications.

Try rebooting your internet router. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if the issue still persists.

But do note that this data also includes all your configurations with your Ring camera, and you might have to start the setup process from scratch.

To factory reset your Ring Video Doorbell camera, follow the steps given below:

  1. Unscrew the Ring Doorbell from its bracket. If you have the Video Doorbell 2 or later, simply unscrew the faceplate.
  2. Press and hold the setup button for about 10 seconds to initiate the reset process.

This can take up to 20 minutes, so wait till you get an indication from your Ring Doorbell that it has entered the pairing process.

Now set up your device from scratch and pair the Ring Doorbell to your Ring app to start using the device.
