Wyze Cam Yellow Light: How To Fix [2023]

Status LEDs have become a must-have feature on modern Smart Home monitoring systems; they help us comprehend various issues and problems. But why does Wyze Cams show a yellow light?

We have had our Wyze cameras for quite a while now, but recently we noticed one of our cams stuck with a solid yellow light.

Upon further inspection, we were able to narrow down the cause to a few culprits. Let's check them out and how to take care of this issue:

If your Wyze camera shows a yellow light, disable Travel Mode on the Cam and the Base Station through the Wyze app. Check the network connection and power cycle the devices. Next, refresh the connection between the Cam and Base station by unpairing and re-pairing it back. If these don't work, factory reset your Wyze camera.

Let's now take a gander at a brief guide on why Wyze Cams show a yellow light:

Why Wyze Cam flashes Yellow

Here's a more detailed guide on what you can do if your Wyze camera shows a yellow light.

What Does a Yellow Light Mean on Wyze Cam?

What Does a Yellow Light Mean

Both Wyze cam and Wyze base station have a status light that helps you determine which state the device is in.

But the Yellow indicator light is not a very common indication as it is seldom found on Wyze Cams, unlike the red light on Wyze cameras or the Wyze Plug blinking blue.

Only Wyze Cam outdoor and the Base Station feature this LED induction.

And what does it indicate? Let's find out:

Hence, the yellow indicator, depending on its status, can indicate three things: power status, the status of Travel Mode, and pairing status.

Travel Mode allows you to use your Wyze Cam outdoor pretty much from anywhere. You can also use the Cam without an active internet connection when Travel mode is enabled on your Cam or Base Station.

And how does this affect your Wyze Cam? Under normal circumstances, the Yellow light is merely an indication of the power/pairing status.

The issue arises only when the indication persists even after pairing the cam to the Base Station/app. The light could also pop up quite abruptly, out of the blue.

To resolve this issue, here are the many troubleshooting steps involved:

Power Cycle Wyze Camera and Base Station

Wyze Cam unpowered

Let's start the troubleshooting by refreshing the Wyze Cam and Base station.

And what better way to reboot the said devices than by power cycling them?

Power cycling your Wyze camera will help it reload its firmware, refresh its connection and help it get rid of any bugs or glitches.

Doing so could also help resolve issues such as Wyze AI events not working or if Wyze updates fail.

To power cycle your Wyze camera, remove it from the power source and keep it idle for at least 15 minutes.

Wyze Cam unplugged

Your Wyze camera should in no way be connected to a power source.

Once 15 minutes have passed, try plugging your camera back in and turning it on.

The camera should connect to your home network automatically.

Perform the same in the case of the Base Station as well.

You might be faced with a solid yellow light at the beginning but this is just your camera initializing. After this, your camera should be ready to go.

Disable Travel Mode on Wyze Cam and Base Station

Disable Travel Mode

Wyze cameras come with a very useful feature known as “Travel mode” which lets you record videos to an onboard SD card without the need for a wifi connection or a connection to the base station.

And when Travel Mode is active, the Cam and the Base station will blink yellow. This might be the sole reason for such a mishap, and there's nothing to be worried about.

You can simply disable the said feature from the Wyze app to turn OFF the Yellow light.

Even though you need your camera to be connected to the base station for commencing travel mode, once it is activated, neither the base module nor the wifi connection is required.

When your Wyze camera is in travel mode, it requires your phone to be connected to the Wyze Cam's local WiFi network.

To disable Travel Mode on Wyze Cam, follow these steps:

1. Open the Wyze app and select the Wyze Cam outdoor tile.

2. Click on the Gear icon and select Exit Travel Mode.

You can also disable Travel mode on your cams (multiple) by turning OFF travel mode on the Base Station.

Here's how to do so:

1. Open the app and select the Base Station tile.

2. Tap on the Gear icon and select Exit Travel Mode.

Check Network Connectivity for Wyze Base Station

Router

A strong and proper internet connection is required for your Wyze camera to work properly.

And when in doubt, make sure that the Wyze base station is properly connected to wifi.

An unstable network connection is a prime reason for Wyze Cams to go offline.

It is possible that your base station might be out of range from your router, if so, you could try moving your base station closer to the router.

Make sure that the base station is in direct line of sight to the router as much as possible.

Thick walls and other opaque partitions paired with interference from other wirelessly transmitting devices will affect the signal strength.

Overloading the network with multiple devices at the same time could also encumber the network.

So, try stabilizing the traffic on the network by turning OFF the network connection on unused devices.

Also, Wyze Cams does not support the 5 GHz band. So when you connect a Wyze Cam to a WiFi network, always do so with the 2.4 GHz band.

Once you have changed this, make sure to restart your router for your settings to take effect.

Unpair and Pair the Wyze Camera With the Base Station

You can also try un-pairing and re-pairing your Wyze camera with the base station.

The base station acts as a connection point for Wyze cam so that it can connect to your network. And a malfunctioning base station can lead to several issues such as Wyze Cam Outdoor not connecting.

For unpairing your camera from the base station, you could delete your camera from the app and re-add it again.

Here's how to do so:

1. Open the Wyze app and tap open the Wyze Cam tile.

2. Tap on the Gear icon.

3. Scroll to the bottom and select Delete Device.

Delete Wyze Cam

Make sure you delete the device from the base connection when it's online else you won’t be able to pair the device again.

This is so that if your Wyze cam is stolen, it cannot be paired with another base station. Make sure you don't delete anything if it shows offline.

After the camera is deleted from the base connection, try re-pairing your camera to the base station. For this:

1. Open the Wyze app, and tap on the ‘+’ sign on the top left.

Wyze add icon

2. Select the ‘Add device’ option.

Wyze Add device tile

3. Select your Wyze Cam.

Wyze Add camera

4. With the Cam plugged into power, select next.

5. Now, single-press the Setup button on the back of the cam. You'll hear a message that says - "Ready to Connect".

6. Tap on 'I heard, “Ready to connect”' and select Next.

7. Select a network and enter the WiFi credentials. Then tap Next.

8. Scan the QR code.

In case your Wyze Cam won't scan the QR code, try moving the code on your device closer to the Cam. The optimal distance is about 5 inches.

9. Once you hear the Setup Completed prompt, tap on 'I heard "QR code scanned".

10. Tap next and name your Cam.

11. Select Finish to complete the setup.

Reset the Wyze Cam

If none of the other steps work, you can try resetting your Wyze cam.

Factory resetting your device will delete all the stored settings so take note of your existing presets.

Doing so could also come in handy when dealing with other software issues such as Wyze Cam rules not working or if Wyze Cam outdoor is not charging.

In order to reset your Wyze cam, follow these steps:

1. First, remove the SD card if present.

Wyze Setup button

2. Then, press and hold the setup button for 15 to 30 seconds.

3. Then wait for at least 30 seconds for your cam to reset (this may take up to 5 minutes).

Once the status light changes from solid yellow to blinking yellow, your device is ready to pair.

Pair the Cam back to the app and check for the issue now.

Contact Wyze Support

Ultimately you could try contacting Wyze customer support.

Hardware damage can also trigger abrupt yellow light status LEDs on Wyze Cam.

Or your Wyze Cam may be faulty from the start.

In such cases, you could request a replacement unit if you are still under the warranty period.

Final Thoughts

There are a variety of ways by which such issues could manifest in your Wyze Cam. But most often, the fixes for these issues are easy and executable in a jiffy.

Make sure you are using genuine cables to connect/power your Wyze camera and base station.

If your cables have broken leads or are crooked in some manner, we suggest using newer cables.

The methods we proposed above should help you resolve your problem. If not, could contact Wyze customer care directly for any further assistance.
