Wyze App Not Working: How to Fix [2022]

Wyze is notorious for having frequent server issues leading to the Wyze app misbehaving and just stopping functioning without prior notice.

This can be a very irritating issue and even dangerous, considering Wyze cameras are usually used for home security purposes.

Waiting for Wyze to fix the issues might take time, and therefore I feel we as end-users should take matters into our own hands and find a fix to this issue.

I went online and read through several user forums and support pages. I compiled all the troubleshooting tips I learned into this guide so that you can fix your Wyze app.

If your Wyze app is not working, reboot your phone or tablet and clear the Wyze app cache. If the video playback is not working, configure microSD card settings and update the app to its latest version.

The most common issues that Wyze users face that render the Wyze app inactive are Wyze server issues, Wyze app login issues, Wyze notification issues, and video playback issues. In this article, I will explain how to troubleshoot each of these problems.

Are Wyze Servers Down? How To Check

Are Wyze Servers Down? How To Check

Due to the sheer number of users active on Wyze, there can be server crashes or temporary maintenance shutdowns that can cut access to your Wyze App and its data.

This is a rather unavoidable occurrence, but thankfully these checks are infrequent and only stay for a very short period of time, with most not even noticing it.

Thankfully, Wyze does keep its users updated on its server status and possible shutdowns in the near future from their official Wyze blog.

This still doesn't report unexpected server crashes obviously, but the blog is constantly updated, and in most unwarranted cases, as soon as the servers are down.

Now if the servers are down, the only thing you can do is wait it out and hope Wyze fixes the issue.

The servers can also be taken down if and when any abnormality is detected, like a possible hack attack on Wyze.

Wyze App Login Screen Not Loading: How to Fix

Wyze App Login Screen Not Loading?

At times, the Wyze app can straight out refuse to load its login screen and simply stay stuck right after boot. This is a cause of annoyance for most users.

The Wyze App checks in with the login server every time you log in, and when the login servers can't be reached the Wyze app simply freezes, causing the issue.

Sometimes, the Wyze app will also give you an error pop-up stating that a proper internet connection wasn't detected, but in most cases, you are left with the login screen simply not loading.

Check Your Internet Connection

Also, check whether your phone or tablet has proper internet access. If you face internet issues, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and get it fixed.

Reboot your internet router just in case, so that the WiFi connection gets refreshed and your phone or tablet will connect without issues.

If you are in doubt whether it is your WiFi router's fault, simply switch to another internet connection or a cellular signal like 4G/LTE/5G.

Reboot Your Phone or Tablet

A possible fix for this issue is to simply reboot your phone or tablet and try again, especially for Wyze app crashes on iPads.

This can potentially clear out any temporary bug that might have blocked the login access.

Simply turn off your phone or tablet by holding the power button on your phone till the power menu pops up on your phone.

Clicking on restart or even power off options can work in this case. Try logging in again after the reboot.

If no power menu options pop up on your phone, keep holding the power button for 10 seconds to force the reboot.

Clear Wyze App Cache

Clearing the Wyze App cache can also help in rectifying any issues that might have been triggered from the Wyze app's side.

To clear the Wyze App cache on your Android phone, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the settings menu .
  • On the search bar on top, search for Apps.
  • From the resultant page, click on the search result titled Apps or App List that takes you to the list of all apps on your phone or tablet.
  • Navigate to the Wyze app from the list.
  • In the app page, click on Storage and Cache and click on clear App Cache to clear all temporary cache files.

Doing this should fix your issues with the Wyze App not loading the login screen. It will also improve the performance and clear off any issues with the Wyze app.

Wyze App Notifications Not Working: How to Fix

Wyze App Notifications Not Working?

The Wyze app is notorious for at times being infrequent in relaying notifications.

This is a dangerous habit for the Wyze App to partake in, as in extreme cases it can lead to this being a major security threat as the user is not alerted on time of suspicious activity.

But fortunately, this issue can be solved from the user end in most cases, as the culprit is almost always the Wyze app.

Check Whether The Events Are Properly Being Recorded

Wyze pushes out notifications to the user only when an event is detected and recorded. Events are instances when the Wyze cameras detect movement and record the footage.

To check whether the events are properly being recorded, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the Wyze App.
  • Tap the Events option on the bottom of the Wyze App homepage.

This shows you all the events that have been recorded.

If there was no event recorded in the instance where you expected the notification to pop up, then your event recording schedule isn't working as expected.

To fix your Event Recording Schedule from the Wyze app, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the Wyze App.
  • Tap on the Settings icon on the top right of the Wyze App homepage.
  • Tap on Event Recording.
  • Tap on Schedule.
  • Toggle the All Day option on.

This will make sure the Wyze Camera stays active all day in order to capture events.

Check The Notification Settings Of Your Wyze App

It is possible that the push notifications, on the whole, might have been disabled on the Wyze app.

In order to properly manage your notification settings on your Wyze App, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the Wyze App.
  • Tap on the Account tab on the lower right of the Wyze App homepage.
  • Tap on Notifications.
  • Toggle the Notifications option on, if disabled.

In order to properly manage your notification settings specific to a particular device, especially if you have multiple devices with the Wyze app, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the Wyze App.
  • Tap on the Account tab on the lower right of the Wyze App homepage.
  • Tap on Notifications.
  • Turn on the toggle for Send Notifications for a Wyze Cam.
  • Toggle the Allow Push Notifications option for Motion Sensor.
  • Toggle the Allow Push Notifications option for Contact Sensor, if any.

Disable Battery Optimization For the Wyze App

Some Android phones can be aggressive in how they handle notifications in order to conserve battery juice, leading to a lot of missed notifications in general.

This issue is not only reflected upon the Wyze App but other apps that push notifications too.

Therefore, the battery optimizations for the particular app, in our case the Wyze app, must be set to disable or unrestricted in order to ensure maximum push notifications reliability.

To disable battery optimization for the Wyze App, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the settings menu .
  • On the search bar on top, search for Apps.
  • From the resultant page, click on the search result titled Apps or App List that takes you to the list of all apps on your phone or tablet.
  • Navigate to the Wyze app from the list.
  • In the app page, click on Battery and select Unrestriced mode.

This should fix your issues with the relaying of notifications from the Wyze App.

Wyze App Video Playback Not Working: How to Fix

Wyze App Video Playback Not Working?

Many Wyze users have recently reported issues with video playback of the footage recorded from their Wyze cameras from their Wyze app.

When the Wyze app is prompted to playback a particular video, the error message of 'No video selected at this time' pops up.

This is an issue that unfortunately doesn't have a proper solution for some users, but in many cases, it can be solved by a little bit of troubleshooting from the user end.

Configure MicroSD Card Settings

This is the official fix that Wyze recommends if you are facing this issue. According to Wyze, this issue is caused due to a conflict in settings for saving onto the microSD card.

The official fix for this video playback error situation is as follows:

  • Open the Wyze App.
  • Tap on the Settings icon on the top right of the Wyze App homepage.
  • Tap on Advanced Settings.
  • Toggle the Record to microSD card option on.

Although this fixes the issue for many, there are still a bunch of users who aren't able to access their video footage directly from the Wyze app.

With Micro SD cards, you can enable continuous recording on Wyze cams.

Install the SD card onto your Cam and enable continuous recording from the Wyze app.

Update the Wyze App to Its Latest Version

As of writing this article, Wyze hasn't released a notable app update that solves the Video Playback issue with the Wyze App.

But since they pushed out an official fix, it is clear that they have acknowledged the issue and is probably working towards a possible fix for everyone.

Till then, our best bet is to wait it out and make sure that the Wyze App frequently stays updated.

In order to update your Wyze App to its latest version, simply follow the following steps:

  • Open the application store on your phone or tablet. It should be the Google Play Store for Android users, and Apple App Store for iOS users.
  • On the search bar on top, search for Wyze App.
  • Click on the first listing on the resultant page that leads to the official Wyze App's store page.
  • If an option for Update is highlighted, tap on it to start the update process.
  • If no such option is highlighted, then chances are that you are already on the latest update.

The MicroSD Card Still Saves the Events

There is still the workaround that you can still remove the microSD card from the Wyze Camera and connect it to your computer to access the video files directly.

This clearly solidifies the fact that the issue is with the Wyze App and not from the user end.

Despite being a hectic method, this is the only workaround as of now, at least until Wyze pushes out an official Wyze App update that solves this issue.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

The Wyze ecosystem on the whole is a fantastic array of devices that lets you get into the world of smart security cameras and Wyze Thermostats (better than the Nest alternative) without breaking the bank.

The cameras are also stuffed with ample features for the asking price, making it a fantastic bargain for most people.

But the central processing unit of the Wyze ecosystem, the Wyze app is riddled with bugs that somewhat degrade the experience of using Wyze cameras in general.

Still, the fact that the issues can mostly be fixed from the user end with a little bit of troubleshooting makes matters easier for both Wyze and its users.

You could force install RTSP on your Wyze cam for better footage organization and viewing, but you would've to flash the software onto the cam through an SD card.

I hope my article on the various issues that riddle the Wyze App even to this day has been a good read and has helped you in solving the same.

Have a good day!
